Joe Farace's interest in photography and digital imaging combines an engineering education from Johns Hopkins University with fine art photography training at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. The Professional Photographers of America awarded him the degree of Photographic Craftsman and the Independent Photographs of Colorado presented Joe with an Honorary Membership for "dedication and service to the photographic community."

He is the author of more than twenty books on photography, digital imaging and computing, including "The Photographer's Digital Studio" from Peachpit Press. In addition, Joe has produced a trilogy of digital imaging books for Allworth Press including "The Digital Imaging Dictionary," The Photographer's Internet Handbook," and Re-Engineering the Photo Studio." The Photographer's Internet Handbook is available in a new, revised edition.

Joe is technical editor of Rick Sammon’s Complete Guide to Digital Photography and co-author of books about traditional photography including "Better Available Light Photography" with Barry Staver and The "Magic Lantern Guide to the Canon Elan 7" with Artur Landt.

Joe has published more than 1300 magazine articles about photography, digital imaging, and computing magazines and has been a regular contributor to Shutterbug magazine since 1994, which publishes his monthly "Digital Innovations" and Web Profiles columns. He was the original editor of eDigitalPhoto magazine and continues as Contributing Writer. His articles have also appeared in many other magazines, including Desktop Publisher's Journal, Video, DigitalImager, International Design (idn), Presentations, Dealerscope, PC Photo, Photo Electronic Imaging (PDI), Photo Pro, PhotoStockNotes, Professional Photographer, The Rangefinder, Studio Photography & Design, and Technical Photography.
